Hello and welcome to Personalised Silver!  We are Peter and Mandy, husband and wife team, the heart and soul behind our small family run business.  Our passion for jewellery and craftsmanship led us to create something special - beautiful hand engraved sterling silver pieces of jewellery.  Every item we design can be cherished for a lifetime.

Our Story

Every piece of jewellery tells a story, and ours begins in the heart of the UK jewellery trade, Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.

Meet Peter – Hand Engraver, Jeweller and Creative Mind

At 17, Peter’s journey into the world of hand engraving began under an apprenticeship at a jewellery manufacturer in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.  Under the guidance of a Master Engraver and training as a Hand Engraver at Birmingham's Jewellery College, where he was awarded distinctions for his work.  He mastered the craft, perfecting the art of engraving intricate designs and lettering onto precious metals.   At the same college he later took a 2 year evening silversmithing course and an allied crafts course.

At the age of 22, his skills took him to Warwickshire, where he joined another jewellery manufacturer as a Hand Engraver. It was there that fate stepped in—not only did he continue to refine his engraving and jewellery setting skills, but it’s also where we met and began our future together.

Years of dedication has led Peter to work with some of the most respected names in the industry. By 2004, he took a leap of faith, becoming self employed and engraving for jewellery shops, silversmiths, and even prestigious clients, including royalty and members of parliament.

Meet Mandy – The Business Mind

My journey began at 17 too, working in the same jewellery manufacturer in Warwickshire as Peter.  I started by polishing gold and silver rings before moving into the precious stones department, where I sorted and graded diamonds. But my career path took a turn - after studying night school AAT then going onto CIMA, gaining a great deal of accounting and business knowledge.  I spent many years working as an assistant accountant and eventually as a finance manager.

Then in 2004, everything changed.   I had just been made redundant whilst on maternity leave and Peter hours had been reduced as shops were no longer using skilled Hand Engravers and choosing machine engraving instead. With the arrival of our first child, during maternity leave, we decided to explore new opportunities, - selling hand engraved jewellery on eBay. What started as very small, quickly gained momentum, and within a year, Personalised Silver was born.

Building Our Dream

Between 2005 and 2010, I balanced working as an accountant while helping Peter build Personalised Silver. But our passion for craftsmanship and skills, together with the joy of creating meaningful jewellery for our customers kept calling us.

In 2011, we took a leap of faith - we moved to the beautiful countryside of Herefordshire and committed ourselves to Personalised Silver full-time. What started as a small collection of hand engraved jewellery has grown into a business where we design and make beautiful hand engraved creations, which we are incredibly proud of.  Today, we offer a wide range of sterling silver gifts, from personalised bookmarks and christening keepsakes to wedding gifts and jewellery for men, women, and children.

In an age where machine engraving has increased in popularity, we remain committed to the beautiful art of hand engraving.  Each piece we create carries the warmth of human touch - the careful strokes of a skilled engraver, the personal attention to detail, and the timeless elegance and quality that only hand engraving can achieve, far superior to machine engraving.

At Personalised Silver, every name, date, and message and pattern we engrave is more than just a design - it’s a memory preserved in silver.

Workshop

We have our own workshop and all of the hand engraving is done on site by us.

We are passionate about bringing beautiful handcrafted jewellery and hand engraving direct to the public.  Our business is built on love, trust, quality and the personal touch dealing directly with the owners. 

 

Experience

We have over 39 years of experience in the jewellery industry and are experienced hand engravers and silversmithing, we can make handmade jewellery from scratch to finished product.  We only deal with quality products and raw materials with reputable suppliers.

 

 We can hand engrave lettering, crests, seals, any designs. 

 

Associations

We are a member of several associations.

 

The Hand Engravers Association – An association raising the awareness of Hand Engraving as a skill and dying art.

 

The Guild of Jewellery Designers – An association for jewellery designers and handmade jewellers

 

Assay Assured – This is a trust mark for online jewellery retailers.  As there is so much counterfeit and fake jewellery online you can be assured that we have been audited by Assay Assured and ensure that we comply with the regulations relating to hallmarking.

 

Hallmark –  We have our own hallmark PM and use Birmingham Assay Office.
